If you aren’t one who hibernates throughout the winter and enjoys a nice snowy adventure, then we have the best ski and snowboarding destinations for you. These resorts offer plenty of other entertaining activities, from snow tubing to fine dining, as well as great snowboarding and skiing.


Mount Peter

Mount Peter is located in the heart of the Hudson Valley. Mount Peter is best known for their free beginner ski and snowboard lessons, family atmosphere and great events. Known as “The Friendly One,” Mount Peter offers advanced group and private lessons, race programs, learn to ski and snowboard programs, women’s programs, and programs just for kids. They also offer a welcoming lodge and tavern, outside pavilion and grill, full rental shop, retail shop, and a tuning shop. Mount Peter also offers reasonable group rates and season passes. Sawkill Family Ski Center

Sawkill provides a complete ski and snowboard center with rentals, instructions, snowmaking and more. This recreation facility is located in the Catskill Mountain range near Woodstock and Kingston and is designed specifically for snowboarders, beginner skiers and snow tubers. They have a fully equipped ski shop to suit your snowboarding, skiing and tubing needs. They also offer ski and snowboard instructors to help you learn some snowboarding skills. Catamount Ski Area

Catamount is located on the Massachusetts/New York boarder and is one of the oldest operating ski areas in the Northeast. From super-gentle to super-steep, Catamount offers terrain that’s just plain unmatched, with over 30 trails and park areas. Route 23, Hillsdale. 518-325-3200. Fahnestock Winter Park

Discover the beauty of Fahnestock Winter Park this winter. Come ski through Hemlock and hardwood forests on their 15km trail system. Lakes, streams, stone walls and granite outcroppings provide a picturesque setting for outdoor recreation, as well as skiing, snowshoeing and sledding. The park has great trails for beginners, which are easy to maneuver and navigate through. Definitely a great spot to visit! Cold Spring. 845-225-3998 (ski center).

Thunder Ridge Resort

Thunder Ridge has 30 trails, 3 chairlifts, and they can make snow. In fact they have over 100 acres of soft white powder to ride!  Thunder Ridge has many special events all season long, such as law enforcement weekends and skiing and snowboarding challenges. When you’re ready for a break from the cold or simply want to watch the thrills and spills, check out their lodge. Relax and enjoy the view from their lounge that overlooks the mountain base.
